It is reasonable that the impressive 93 year history of the KKE, a party which has remained unbowed for almost a century, which has been consistently and unwaveringly at the side of the people even if it had to pay for its stance with the lives and the blood of its members and cadre, provokes the interest of every well-intentioned person. From this standpoint the dissemination of the history of the KKE, especially in today’s difficult conditions which the country is experiencing contributes to the raising of genuine patriotism and proletarian internationalism.
60 years have passed since the murder of Nikos Belogiannis and his comrades on 30th March 1952. The daily newspaper “Rizospastis”, organ of the CC of the KKE, has dedicated several pages to this anniversary.
Belogiannis, in conditions when the KKE was illegal and severely persecuted, utilised the trial against him at the military tribunal in order to denounce and ridicule his accusers. The dialogue during the trial with the policeman Aggelopoulos, one of his basic accusers, is a characteristic example.
BELOGIANNIS: Do you claim that I came here to implement the decisions of the plenary sessions of the CC of KKE?
Aggelopoulos: Yes I do.
Belogiannis: These decisions state that the basis of the activity of the KKE is the struggle for bread, democratic freedoms, peace. Is this not the case?
Aggelopoulos: It is indeed.
Belogiannis: Consequently, the struggle for bread, democratic freedoms and peace is a conspiracy against Greece, isn’t it?
Aggelopoulos: No
Belogiannis: Thank you. This was all I wanted to clarify.
“On his own path”
The KKE honoured and honours the militant stance of Nikos Belogiannis. Nikos Zachariades, GS of the CC of the KKE, noted in an article about Nikos Belogiannis, which was published in April 1952 in a special edition of the illegal “Rizospastis”:
“If we want to briefly convey what type of person Belogiannis was, we could say that in his entire militant life
he was a worthy member of the KKE,
an eagle,
a real Bolshevik,
a guide and a leader (…).
