When The Boat Comes In
Anyone ever heard of this series? I found it via a comment on an article from the Guardian last week that referred to it as the last of the working class TV shows in the UK. It's from the late 70's. I've been watching it on YouTube, as some kind soul uploaded the entire series in small enough watchable chunks to escape the censors.
It's a period drama set after WW1 in a mining town in the north of England, and it is very pro-labor with lots of socialist characters, etc. Sometimes it is a little over earnest, but I think people here would enjoy it. I haven't watched the whole thing, I'm just getting through the first season. Here's a sample from a recent one that I watched. It shows New Year's Eve, juxtaposing scenes from a family party with two speakers at the local, one the local Tory candidate, the other a traveling Socialist speaker:
