Thread: TheBell now has a News Forum...

  1. #1

TheBell now has a News Forum...

... fed by RSS Headline feeds.

It operates normally but the thread openers come from the feed.

The first feed is Morning Star (World News). The MS is a famous U.K. socialist newspaper which traces its name all the way back to Herr Marx.

Unfortunately, I haven't quite got Granma working yet...

This is an experimental feature. We'll see how it goes.

Very cool! What's the idea during this test phase? To answer directly in that forum or to take the articles of interest and paste into LBN?

We can do both... There is a lot of one liner commentary that gives a lot of these headlines substance. On the other hand, it is possible to move important stuff to a full LBN treatment.

Right now, I'm trying to bring in half a dozen more feeds (like Granma) and exclude the feeds from the "Latest" so posts aren't swamped by feed headlines.

It occurs to me that we could feed out an annotated version of what feeds in, as well...

(On edit: the feed headlines have a half-life much shorter than the LBN treatment because of sheer volume - one to two weeks worth at most, before we recycle?)

I just posted some photos on the Morning Star Tunis thread, but now I'm not sure if that's too much for a newsfeed thread?

The 'News Feeds' is an excellent feature by the way. More!

Thanks, I absolutely love the feature but wonder if stuff won't get buried down there where most feed threads would get no response. Forgive me for always having suggestions and honestly no offense taken if they get shut down but what do you think about making that forum read only for now and if people want to discuss a story, they can grab it from there and post it in LBN?

Definitely. And what are your thoughts on auto-tweeting, or manually tweeting, certain things out, even if only the newsletter? There's a lot of socialist/communist/labor activity on twitter.

I probably could figure out a way to "auto-promote" articles to LBN - say we move everything up to LBN that gets a comment (or two, or three...).

That would do the trick if it's not too much trouble

I'm embarrassed to admit that I have never been to or seen Twitter (or Facebook, etc.). If it fits, I've got no objection at all...
