Jane Goodall endorsed my chocolate bar

"Our everyday actions - even buying a chocolate bar - are meaningful." --Jane Goodall

It says that on the wrapper. I wish I was kidding. I wish to state for the record that I did not pay for this chocolate bar, therefore I have done nothing meaningful and I'm sure something horrible will happen to me (ya know, karma).

As a leader of the environmental movement for over 40 years and a United Nations Messenger of Peace, Jane Goodall has created her own “Good For All” seal to reflect her personal commitment to supporting high quality, ethically produced products from the developing world. Our two newest Theo chocolate bars carry Jane’s seal, essentially her seal of approval, and truly are “Good for All.”

The partnership between Theo and Jane Goodall is inspired by “Cocoa Practices,” a ground breaking Theo Chocolate initiative that brings together small scale cocoa farmers, larger producers and non-governmental organizations from the world’s cocoa producing regions. Cocoa Practices is designed to give farmers the tools they need to grow high-quality cocoa beans while conserving indigenous wildlife and other natural resources in the tropical rainforest eco-systems that provide both their livelihoods and their homes.

Proceeds from the sale of these chocolate bars will benefit cocoa farmers, promote conservation in the tropical rainforest and directly contribute to the Jane Goodall Institute’s efforts to save chimpanzees, develop community centered conservation efforts and direct youth education programs around the world.

Once you have tasted our wonderful chocolate you will experience why it is “Good For All!” Be a part of our movement to save our planet and its capacity to nurture and sustain all living things. We can’t do it without you!

    Aww man,

I guess it's the best that St Jane can muster. She cannot escape her upper class background, the currents she has been swimming in her whole life. She must realize the minute effect this effort will have on chimp populations, I'd bet the futility is killing her.

Her field work was golden, I cannot knock her efforts on behalf of the survival of chimpanzees, though they are mostly useless, but this leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
Social relationships have their inherent logic; as long as people live in given mutual relationships they will feel, think and act in a given way, and no other. Attempts on the part of public men to combat this logic also would be fruitless; the natural course of things (this logic of social relationships) would reduce all his effort to nought. But if I know in what direction social relations are changing owing to given changes in the social-economic process of production, I also know in what direction social mentality is changing; consequently, I am able to influence it. Influencing social mentality means influencing historical events. Hence, in a certain sense, I can make history, and there is no need for me to wait while "it is being made."

I thought she was so cool when I was a kid

I was sorta shocked to see her 'seal of approval'.

If it's any consolation, several boxes of this overpriced gimmicky chocolate (which was pretty good as far as milk chocolate goes) will be distributed for free at a low-income housing site.

I just had to sample it first, ya know, for quality control :)

Was she Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman?

    Sadly, I'm thinking not..
