Anyone looking to buy the votes of today's college students better bring their checkbooks.

Two-thirds of New York University students would exchange their right to vote in the next presidential election in exchange for a year's tuition ($31,534 for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences) Some would give up voting for an iPod Touch ($299 or $399 depending on model), according to a survey done by a NYU journalism class.

Interestingly, the students still believe that every vote matters which raises an interesting point. "If we take them at their word, then perhaps they really think votes matter, and that's why someone might pay a year's tuition to buy theirs," Sociology Department Chairman Dalton Conley told the Web site.

This survey -- which obviously was tongue in check -- does underscore a more serious problem. Despite Rock the Vote and countless other efforts, young people just don't vote. They don't see the point. Given skyrocketing college tuition rates, is it any wonder that they are focused on how to get themselves out from under a mountain of debt as soon as they graduate.

What has any party ever done for the youth?

Which party has introduced legislation to lower the voting age or stop Gulag schools or lower the drinking age or end tasering on campuses?

Until someone can name a party that has done this, any college student who gets a profit for his vote is at least getting some benefit out of the two party system.
