McKinney Dismisses Pelosi, Embraces Sheehan Challenge

The Nation -- Cynthia McKinney, who served six terms as an often-dissenting Democratic congresswoman from Georgia, is as disenchanted with the cautious course of her old party as the millions of Americans who -- through their low approval rating for the current Congress -- are registering frustration at the failure of Democratic leaders in the House and Senate to aggressively oppose the war in Iraq and to confront the high crimes and misdemeanors of the Bush-Cheney administration.
McKinney confirmed the depth of her disenchantment at a rally Saturday in Kennebunkport, Maine, where thousands of activists gathered to protest at one of the president's several vacation homes.
McKinney denounced both Bush and what she referred to as "an exhaustively complicit Democratic Party"
What of the leader of the Democrats in the House where she once served?
McKinney and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, did not always see eye to eye even before McKinney lost a 2006 Democratic primary to a challenger who promised to work more closely with party leaders. But now McKinney is taking the bold step of urging San Francisco voters to replace Pelosi with anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, who is mounting an aggressive independent challenge to the speaker in the November, 2008, election.
McKinney and Pelosi were often at odds, even before McKinney lost a 2006 Democratic primary to a challenger who promised to work more closely with party leaders. But, now
Urging anti-war insurgents to challenge both recalcitrant Republicans and disappointing Democrats, McKinney said:
I have to admit that I'm saddened deeply by what my Opposition Party has become. When George Bush stole two Presidential elections from them, they didn't even fight for themselves! And now they're defined by their failure to fight for us.
That means, that now, more than ever, we the people are the ones who have to take our country back in the most fundamental way.

That reminds me - she never answered my email
I sent her an email about a week ago on a whim asking her if she would consider running for President as an independent, never heard back.
But it's good to see her name in the news, especially saying those words. Maybe she'll do it too :)

This is interesting, not sure what to make of it:
US Opposition Political Leaders Issue Urgent False Flag Terror Warning
A group of former government officials along with current Congressional candidates, authors and activists has issued an urgent warning that a faction of the US government allied with Dick Cheney is planning to stage a terror event or provocation as a pretext for launching military attacks against Iran and implementing emergency powers in America.
Former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, along with former US Diplomat and Colonel in the US Army reserve Ann Wright have put their names to an open letter warning that massive evidence points to an upcoming event.
Current Congressional candidates Cindy Sheehan and Craig Hill are also among the signatories to the letter.
Here is the letter in full:
To the American people, and to peace loving individuals everywhere:
Massive evidence has come to our attention which shows that the backers, controllers, and allies of Vice President Dick Cheney are determined to orchestrate and manufacture a new 9/11 terror incident, and/or a new Gulf of Tonkin war provocation over the coming weeks and months. Such events would be used by the Bush administration as a pretext for launching an aggressive war against Iran, quite possibly with nuclear weapons, and for imposing a regime of martial law here in the United States. We call on the House of Representatives to proceed immediately to the impeachment of Cheney, as an urgent measure for avoiding a wider and more catastrophic war. Once impeachment has begun, it will be easier for loyal and patriotic military officers to refuse illegal orders coming from the Cheney faction. We solemnly warn the people of the world that any terrorist attack with weapons of mass destruction taking place inside the United States or elsewhere in the immediate future must be considered the prima facie responsibility of the Cheney faction. We urge responsible political leaders everywhere to begin at once to inoculate the public opinion of their countries against such a threatened false flag terror operation.

Are you talking about McKinney as president?!?!
OMG! :bounce: That would be like making my day, week, month, year and years to come!!!!
We need more Sheehans and McKinneys.. those two gals kick booty!!

None Ofthe Above
Some millionaire could conduct recruitment for 50 people to change their names to None Ofthe Above and run for governors in all 50 states. Now if they supported Raw Milk and Free Cannabis For Everyone, None Ofthe Aboves might win half the offices.
A decent None Ofthe Above needs to go ahead and challenge Pelosi in the primary. The only thing is the None Ofthe Above that could beat Pelosi would be harder to beat than Pelosi and it would ruin the Pelosi-Sheehan show down.

yahoo news is running a Nation story?
Do they do that often? I've never noticed that.
I don't know much about McKinney, but she sounds great! How did she get defeated in the primary as an incumbent?
While I'm deeply disappointed with Pelosi, the only thing I know about Sheehan's stance on issues is that she's against the occupation and for impeachment. While those are at the top of my current list, by the time she is voted in, if she wins, those issues will most likely not be relevant. Bush will be gone and there ought to be a Dem as president who should be ending this occupation. Now if one particular candidate wins she might be ready to start another one (not naming any names now ;) ), but theoretically the occupation will end.
So doe anyone know where she stands on other issues?
-
she stands to the left on all issues
-
If clinton or obama are elected
expect the occupation to continue. The phrase they use often, "US security interests in the Middle East" is code for continued US imperialism.

LOL, that was my thought
I can't remember who, but someone else mentioned McKinney here recently and I looked up her email address and asked her on a whim. But she hasn't answered yet - I don't even know if it's the right email address. But I'll post it here if I ever do get an answer :)
-
I've never seen it before, either. But that's why we see the phrase
"high crimes and misdemeanors of the Bush-Cheney administration" right up front at the end of the first paragraph! That's certainly highly unusual for Yahoo! News, to say the least. :)

McKinney was given a primary challenger in 2002, a former Republican
named Denise Majette.
My memory's a little vague about the ins and outs (Ulysses at DU campaigned for her and would know the details), but she's been targeted by the DLC on repeated occasions, most recently when her confrontation with a Capitol security guard who didn't recognize her and wouldn't let her in was blown all out of proportion. From the way the DLC apologists talked, you would have thought that she decked the guy and stomped on him--which she didn't--and they stated that this made her "too unstable" to hold office.
She's the right wing's worst nightmare, a highly intelligent left-wing African-American woman.
-
Oh right, that's who she is...
I knew the name was familiar. I didn't follow that story too closely, but I remember a big deal being made about it by the powers that be.
Thanks.

McKinney has had it right all along.

It could happen.

2007 Green Party National Meeting
Cynthia McKinney ". . . the disgust of the American people with what they see before them. All they need is the blueprint and a road map. Why not have the Green Party provide the blueprint and the road map?"

Let's get a petition asking her to run
If she knows she has enough support, she might do it.
