  1. Dear Mike! Sorry for taking so long to reply. I did something really dumb and came down with Dengue fever. You're really sweet and understanding. I'm sorry to hear about the death of your close friend I'm still deliberately walking the fields of solitude down here. Btw, did you know this isn't a PM? Visitors' messages are there for everyone to see. PMs are under the "Send Private Message" link. Thanks for watching the Guate video. They hit me hard too. I knew there was work to do here but hot damn! We are out of time and I've lost patience. Heh, I'm fighting as we speak my friend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSRVtlTwFs8 ! Your VM is the first thing I've seen here, let me go look at that thread and others. Hugs
  2. I watched the Guatemala videos and it hit me hard. Those videos brought a lot of things together for me. I kept thinking that it is time to get serious, that we are out of time, that this is real and immediate. They are us and we are them - anything else is an illusion. There is no safe place to hide and no way to distance yourself from the reality of what is happening. Listening to that bishop talk was especially troubling, but that is one of a couple dozen moments in the film that deeply affected me. My music, Catholicism, politics, social conditions, culture, the nightmares people are facing here more and more, what I want to say to people in my performances - somehow it all came together watching the film. Like you, I am furious and I think that is good and necessary but not sufficient. We need a renewed determination and focus. What is happening must be stopped. We must fight.

    Mike
  3. Hi Cassandra. First, I want to say that I have missed you terribly. At the same time, I understand the need to withdraw - I did that for ten years, disconnecting from everyone, abandoning my performance career, and now over the last two weeks, due to the death of my closest friend, I have been reconnecting with dozens of people here in Ann Arbor. I needed to get away from Detroit and to walk the fields in solitude, watch the seasons, help with the harvest and be part of something simple and good and larger than myself. I didn't know that it would take ten years to restore my sanity, but it did.

(The software is forcing me to send this in two PMs....too many characters it says.)

What a nasty article.

Now I understand why there's been so much talk of Chavez being fine this morning on the streets of Guatemala. It's like the street has his back. One of the saddest things down here is hearing poor Guatemalans tell you how much they love Chavez and Morales.

Drug war my foot.
