WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Green Party candidates are running campaign ads throughout the U.S. in preparation for the November 7 general election.

"The number and quality of ads show that the Green candidates have reached a new level of sophistication and support in their races for public office," said Jody Grage, treasurer for the Green Party of the United States. "The ads cover everything from the need to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq, to issues like health care and global warming, to attempts by debate sponsors and Democrats and Republicans to bar Greens from candidates' debates. We're reaching millions of voters with these ads."

A list of Green campaign ads posted online is appended below, with links to the ads themselves.

Green Party leaders also noted other important developments in the 2006 election season:

*

Nearly 400 Green candidates are on the ballot in 2006
*

So far in 2006, Green candidates have won 24 out of 62 elections around the U.S., for a win rate of 39%
*

In Illinois, Green gubernatorial candidate Rich Whitney is drawing 9-11% in recent polls, and his campaign promises to be the first time a candidate has achieved official ballot access and major party status for a nationally organized third party since 1920 in Illinois
*

Antiwar activist Cindy Sheehan has endorsed Green candidates Malachy McCourt for Governor of New York, Michael Berg for U.S. Representative from Delaware, and Todd Chretien for U.S. Senator from California <http://thirdplanetvideo.com/CindySheehanEndorses2.html>.

Green Party candidate Dixon arrested outside debate
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003309366_webdixon17.html

~snip~

Republican Mike McGavick, Democrat Sen. Maria Cantwell and Libertarian Bruce Guthrie were at KING-TV to tape a debate that aired Tuesday night.

Dixon wasn't invited to participate because he couldn't show the minimum financial support to qualify under criteria set up by the Debate Advisory Standards Project, a nationally recognized group. The debate was co-sponsored by The Seattle Times.

After the arrest, about 35 Dixon supporters marched several blocks from the television station to the Seattle Police Department's west precinct. They then marched back to the television station, where they rejoined a crowd of political activists.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think this just shows what kind of power you're really up against. No way will they go gentle into that good night...too much money at risk. I think that Libertarian guy mortgaged his house & loaned his life savings to his campaign so he could qualify to be on tv with the other two & he remarked during the debate that he was the "poorest millionaire" up there. Proof that money talks & common people aren't allowed to hold offices.
Hey, nice little nook you've got yourself here, this will make it easier to find your topics that interest voters & those who still have faith in the system. I came in to see if you were aware of what happened to Dixon, but otherwise would have never searched thru all the topics to find out.
