In Orange County, three seats (where the Democrats failed to place a candidate on the ballot in the primary) each had a qualified write-in, who under the California Constitution are elibible to be put on the November ballot. The problem is that McPherson is not eager to have Democrats run against otherwise unopposed Republicans and the Democratic Party is wondering if it really wants to get a court order to place three liberal Democrats on the ballot. Attorneys looking at the situation say that the Democratic Party is entitled to the order placing these three candidates on the ballot and will get one if the party seeks one. All three are popular enough to bring lots of volunteers into the party. But, perhaps certain Democratic party chairmen want to see the Democratic Party retain its minority status in Congress.
